I needed a board bag in a bad way. My boards were getting beat up going up and down the tight stairwell in my building and the pavement in the lot at the beach. Board socks were OK, but carrying presented a bit of a problem and the dam fins had a tendency to cut through the thin material. So, I bought a 6'6" OAM Day Runner bag at Killer Dana during some weekend sale and I've never looked back. This day bag (not intended for travel) is available in sizes from 6'0 to 10'0 in both short and longboard models. Even though this bag is listed at 6'6" it holds 6'7" easily and I'd dare say that you could get a 6'8" thruster in there if you squeezed.
OAM calls this a "price point" bag which in marketing terms means we all can afford one, usually at the expense of lower quality materials or deleted features even though the materials in this OAM Day Mission Bag are A class and pretty much every feature is present. You should be able to pick one up at your local shop for $45-85 depending on what size and shape you get.
The material is strong and light with a reflective silver on the outside and white on the inside. The bag has 1/4 foam padding and a big zipper with 2 zipper pulls. There is codura nylon reinforcement in the nose of the bag which is a nice touch and gives the bag a nice look. The shoulder strap is comfortable and adjustable. The strap can be taken on or off and the bag has a simple handle if you choose to go strapless.
The entry system is by far the easiest and most user-friendly out there. Most bags zip on the side-seam in a clam-shell like manner. This bag zips on the top about 3-4" from the side-seam which makes getting the board in and out a breeze. After using this zipper system I'll find it hard to use anything else.
My only gripe with this bag is the lack of an internal pocket or even an external pocket to put wax or keys or anything for that matter. That simple addition would make this board bag the king of all day-bags. A little disappointing it's not on here on an otherwise perfect bag.
Basically if you're looking for a day bag to cart your stick around town and are looking for something that's affordable, light and ultra-easy to load and unload look no further that the OAM Day Mission board bag.
